Dean: Prof Mick Molloy MFSEM(UK), FRCEM, FFSEM, MSc, Dip SpMed
Prof Molloy is a Consultant Emergency Physician at Wexford General Hospital and Clinical Associate Professor at University College Dublin. He is also Disaster Medicine Specialist having completed Masters Degrees in the EU and Fellowships in Disaster Medicine and separately Crisis Leadership at the Beth Israel Deaconess Fellowship in Disaster Medicine based in Boston, Massachussetts. A former medical officer with Connacht Mens Rugby and Leinster Ladies having previously played Rugby union for Gorey, Old Belvedere and UCD while an undergraduate, and Rugby League for Dublin Blues, Leinster and Ireland. Prof Molloy has served as Medical officer at two Rugby league World Cups, Chairman of Rugby League Ireland for 6 years and currently chairs the Medical Committee for the Rugby League International Federation (MEDSCo). Prof Molloy coaches under-age Rugby union at Old Belvedere and takes a keen interest in under age player welfare and injury prevention/health promotion. He provides ringside medical cover at professional boxing and mixed martial arts in Ireland and has been appointed by two Ministers for Health to the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council responsible for setting the standards for pre-hospital care in Ireland.
Vice-Dean: Dr Suzi Clarke MB, FRCPI, FFSEM, MSc (Sports Medicine), MSc (Healthcare Management)
Dr Clarke is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. She has previously served as Honorary Secretary to the Board from 2012-2015, and Treasurer from 2018-2021. She currently works as a Consultant Sports & Exercise Medicine physician and Clinical Lead for Musculoskeletal medicine in the Vhi360 Clinics. She previously worked as a specialist in Sports Medicine in the Emergency Department at St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin from 2011-2019. She has worked as Team Doctor for the FAI senior, U19 and U17 women’s team and was a member of the FAI medical committee. She has also worked as medical officer for Irish Hockey and also as Team Doctor for Irish Athletics and Swim Ireland. She was a member of the medical staff for the Irish team at the London Olympics in 2012.
Honorary Secretary: Dr Frank O'Leary MB BCh BAO FFSEM MFSEM (UK) MICGP MSc (Sports & Exercise Medicine), Dip MSK Injury & Management, MSc (Clinical Education), DCH, DPD, DRCOG, PGCert (MSK US)
Dr Frank O’ Leary completed the Trinity College Dublin General Practice training programme in 2012 before obtaining a place on the London Sports & Exercise Medicine Training programme where he is currently in his final year. Frank has extensive experience in elite and international sport as a team physician in rugby, athletics and football. He is currently working as a Team doctor with Tottenham Hotspur FC Academy having previously worked as Team doctor to both London Irish RFC (2022/2023 season) and to the Ireland Women’s rugby team (2017–2019). He also acts as independent match day doctor for the European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) Competition. Frank was appointed as Chief Medical Officer to Team Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival (Azerbaijan 2019) and was a member of the Team Ireland medical support for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Frank has a keen interest in medical education and has undertaken an MSc in both clinical education and sports and exercise medicine. He has published and presented on concussion in contact sports and illness prevention in elite athletes, most notably at the International Olympic Committee’s World Conference on the prevention of Injury and Illness in 2021. He has been both author and reviewer for the British Association of Sports & Exercise Medicine’s MSK online education resources for SEM trainees.
Treasurer: Mr Richard Egan CITP
Mr Egan is Founder and CEO of Cushla Health Systems which is a patient partnership platform that was founded in Ireland in 2020 and is also incorporated in the US. Prior to this, he held senior management positions in VHI and Citi. Richard’s involvement in Sports & Exercise started when he joined the FSEM in 2014 as lay member. His prior activities include running Rugby League Ireland for 14 years, including company formation, attaining international and national recognition, running 3 World Cups and many other international tournaments. He also represented Ireland at amateur and international level as a player. He is also secretary of the International Rugby League Medical Subcommittee. He recently became Treasurer of FSEM and is focused on ensuring good governance and budgeting of the faculty.
